Description
Responsible for maintaining security of control room computers and electronic systems. Incumbent must report and/or respond to penetrations/intrusions, escapes, or security breaches; report/respond to riots, fights, disorders, or unusual activity; and report sabotage, pilferage, or security violations. Duties also include notifying designated persons during emergency situation, issuing keys, and operating secure door and gate access. Maintaining and logging jail activities with the jail management system. Observing deputy while conducting activities in secured areas. Answer phone system and relay information, assist outside individuals, and direct the public to correct departments. Make visual inspection of inmates to ensure their safety and enforce rules and regulations. Utilize handheld radio systems for communication.
Duties
- Maintains a proper working knowledge of all emergency procedures related to their post including the physical location and proper use of all emergency equipment if applicable, and acts immediately and in accordance with agency policies/procedures in the event of an emergency.
- Attends shift briefings or staff meetings, recording all pertinent information and directives, and providing superiors and colleagues with job/shift related information.
- Responds as directed and in accordance with agency policies/procedures to any and all subpoenas.
- Conducts security surveillance and records activity to ensure everything is logged on the computers to provide the agency with an accurate record of the events unfolding day to day at the jail.
- Logs events on assigned wing such as count, searches, and supplies.
- Ensures the safety of the deputies on the wing.
- Communicates via radio and operates the control panels in order to secure gates and security doors within the facility.
- Dispatches deputies for service calls, communicating in a clear manner and providing deputies with additional/updated pertinent information as it becomes available.
- Operates the telephone console/switchboard, answering the calls in a courteous and professional manner, assisting callers as appropriate, determining the nature of the call and transferring the call to the appropriate personnel in accordance with agency policies.
- Monitors closed circuit screens and ensures that any suspicious or irregular activity is investigated pursuant to agency policies.
- Notifies their supervisor or other designated individual in case of an escape attempt and provide sufficient and accurate details if known, including the location, possible escape route, a description of the inmate(s) or any identifiable medical needs; and proceeds according to instructions given and/or agency policies/procedures concerning their role in pursuing the escapee vs. remaining at their assigned post.
- Ensures that unauthorized personnel do not operate or have access to the control room computers/electronics systems in accordance with agency policies.
- Responds to the alarm by calling for assistance and providing updates to responding staff members, in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
- Verifies the identify of all individuals requiring access to a designated secure area and will allow access to appropriate personnel in accordance with agency policies/procedures.
- Requests appropriate assistance ASAP in order to minimize pain and injury to the inmate/offender/detainee (if applicable), facility personnel and/or the public pursuant to FMJS regulations and in accordance with agency policies.
- Gives immediate detailed report/information regarding any penetrations/intrusions, security breaches and/or escapes as applicable, in accordance with agency policies.
- Reports riots, fights, disorders, or any unusual activities to the appropriate post or supervisor as appropriate, detailing location, type of incident, number of inmates/offenders/detainees/persons involved, and request for assistance if needed pursuant to agency policies.
- Reports any sabotage, pilferage, or security violations to a supervisor and/or control room as appropriate, in accordance with agency policies.
- Reviews and accurately follow the daily posted schedule regarding the performance of the duties associated with their assigned post.
- Responds to telephone/e-mail inquiries from Judges and Attorneys in a professional manner, providing the requested information in a timely manner or directing the inquirer to the appropriate entity.
- Responsible for the training and supervision of assigned team deputies.
- Be thoroughly familiar with Florida Jail Model Standards and FCAC Standards.
- Ensure adequate staffing of the watch within minimum staffing guidelines.
- Ensure the designated deputies respond to emergencies with the appropriate equipment.
- Respond to emergency situations within the facility.
- Conduct roll call at the beginning of each shift.
- Ensure roll call inspections are completed.
- Ensure all roll call assignments are entered into Tele staff prior to the end of shift.
- Ensure emergency drills are conducted as required.
- Make deputies aware of revised and/or new written directives.
- Review Report of Confinement paperwork.
- Ensure inmates are not held in holding cells in excess of eight hours and, if extenuating circumstances exist, ensure documentation is completed.
- Ensure all required documentation is completed in a timely manner prior to the end of shift.
- Ensure the supervision of the facility (deputies and inmates).
- Ensure safe and secure housing of inmates.
- Ensure the inspection of all living and work spaces within the facility for cleanliness and proper functioning of equipment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma (GED).
- Proficient in Microsoft office products
- Speak and understand the English language
- CJIS Security Awareness
- Red Cross CPR Certification.
