Performs a wide range of general law enforcement duties in the prevention, detection and investigation of criminal acts; apprehends and arrests law violators; safeguards lives and property; and related work as required.
FOR OUT-OF-STATE LAW ENFORCEMENT CERTIFIED OR MILITARY MEMBERS WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT CREDENTIALS
If you are certified in Law Enforcement in another state, federal agency, or military, or if you have more than four years break in Law Enforcement certification, you may be exempted from attending the full basic recruit academy and you qualify for an Out-Of State Equivalency.
Requirements
JOB PREREQUISITES:
High School diploma of GED.
Must be 19 years of age.
Meet all requirements of FSS 943.13, “officers’ minimum qualifications for employment or appointment.”
Successfully complete Basic Police Recruit School in the State of Florida or receive a certificate of comparative compliance from the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.
Ability to maintain physical condition needed to affect arrest, subdue resisting individuals, chase fleeing subjects, lift and carry equipment and injured persons, force entry into buildings, climb flights of stairs, walk, stand, sit or drive for long periods of time, endure exposure to extreme weather.
Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License, with a good driving record.
Be able to effectively communicate information both orally and in writing.
Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and determine a proper course of action.
Ability to react quickly and calmly under emergency situations.
Ability to cope with situations firmly, courteously, and tactfully, with respect to rights of others.
Ability to develop skill in use and care of firearms.
Be in good physical and mental condition, and successfully pass physical and psychological examinations.
Maintain certification as a sworn officer as defined by the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.
Successfully complete and maintain proficiency in annual firearms training, driver certification, defensive tactics and the physical agility course within the prescribed time limit as required by the agency policy.
Maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.
Per Operational Directive 3430.49, the candidate must maintain favorable performance for the time in their current step before becoming eligible for promotion to the next sequential step. All training hours for each step must be completed.
