EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2026, STARTING SALARY UP TO $78,557 for SWORN LAW ENFORCEMENT WITH PRIOR EXPERIENCE
This specialized law enforcement position focuses on promoting public safety through proactive traffic enforcement, collision investigation, and community education on traffic-related issues. This position performs general law enforcement work with the responsibility of preservation and protection of life and property, the prevention and investigation of crime, the maintenance of good public order, the enforcement of civil and criminal law and other related duties as directed or assigned. Work involves an element of personal danger. Employees must be able to act effectively without direct supervision and to exercise discretion, caution, common sense, reasonable calmness, and self-control under adverse conditions while maintaining control of a particular situation or emergency.

To be successful in this position, you must be self-motivated, a detail-oriented professional committed to reducing roadway injuries and fatalities. Must demonstrate competency in local, state and federal statutes and ordinances, officer safety, firearms proficiency, knowledge of geographical jurisdiction, defensive and control tactics, conflict resolution, general communication skills (both written and oral), inter-personal skills, problem solving, driving, team building skills and interviewing skills.

Requirements
- High School Diploma.
- Associate's degree preferred.
- In compliance with 943.13 F.S., the position requires the employee to be at least 19 years of age, be a citizen of the United States, be of good moral character, must have completed a basic training program for Law Enforcement approved by the CJSTC and pass the Florida certification examination.
- Must not be disqualified by any factors outlined in the application for employment.
- Must maintain a primary residence within Leon County or a county adjacent to Leon (Wakulla, Liberty, Gadsden, and Jefferson Counties in Florida, Thomas and Grady Counties in Georgia).
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving history.
- Must have one year of full time law enforcement experience.
- Must be able to obtain a motorcycle endorsement.
- Must be able to satisfactorily complete the basic 80-hour LE Motorcycle Rider Training Program.
- Must satisfactorily complete LCSO Field Training Program.
- Sit/stand for extended periods of time.
- See/hear at normal range.
- Speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
- Ambulate independently.
- Lift/carry 150 pounds.
- Push/pull moderate to heavy loads.
- Bend and squat.
- Manual dexterity.
- Drive a vehicle.
- Drive a motorcycle.
- Pass standard Physical Agility Test as required.
- Pass Firearms and Defensive Tactics courses as required.
- Pass various driving tests as required.
- Pass all other courses/training as mandated by LCSO and/or FCJSTC.
- Position requires frequent work outdoors, during high and low temperatures and inclement weather or disasters.
- Position has an increased risk of occupational exposure to hazardous and infectious materials.
- Must be able to wear required uniform and equipment including a safety belt weighing 10 or more pounds.
- Must be able to work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays.
