JOB SUMMARY
The Facilities Maintenance Specialist performs a wide variety of skilled construction and maintenance work ranging from general building maintenance and repairs to larger remodeling projects and building construction. This role participates in preventative maintenance, repair and upkeep duties to ensure all buildings, equipment, and grounds remain safe and fully functional. Additionally, the incumbent operates medium to heavy motorized equipment and assists with complex repairs to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and/or water systems, as well as masonry and carpentry work. NOTE
It is understood that every incidental duty connected with operations enumerated in job descriptions are not always specifically described and personnel, at the discretion of the Sheriff's Office may be required to perform duties not within their job descriptions. This position is eligible for an assigned agency vehicle.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE
Veteran’s preference is given to qualified applicants in accordance with section 295.07, F.S. Preference-eligible applicants claiming Veteran’s Preference will be required to submit supporting documentation. This position is eligible for a waiver of postsecondary educational requirements.
Requirements
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSES
A high school diploma or possession of a GED certificate and four years of experience as a skilled trades worker in at least one of these trades is required: plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, or other skilled trades. Working knowledge of procedures/techniques and experience in two or more skilled trades preferred. Must maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License at all times. Unescorted CJIS clearance as authorized by FDLE is required.
MINIMUM PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
The physical abilities listed below are estimates of time spent during a typical workday to perform essential functions and responsibilities. Members in this position may be required to:
- Sit up to 1 hour per day
- Stand up to 7 hour per day
- Walk up to 1 hour per day
- Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Occasionally bend, squat, reach, kneel or twist
Other Requirements:
- 20/40 vision (corrected/uncorrected)
- Ability to hear conversation at a normal level (assisted or unassisted)
- Ability to work shift work
- Ability to work in hazardous conditions
