Description
A School Resource Deputy (SRD) performs duties which include, but are not limited to: Performs law enforcement functions within the school setting; Identifies and prevents, through counseling and referral, delinquent behavior, including substance abuse; Fosters a better understanding and develops positive concepts of law enforcement; Provides information about crime prevention, assists and supports crime victims within the school setting, including abused children; Assists students and their families with referrals for assistance in mental health and drug abuse; Provides awareness of laws and consequences through classroom and assembly style presentations. May be responsible for working events for the District and/or at the school to which the SRD is assigned when required. When the school to which the School Resource Deputy is assigned is not in session and the School Resource Deputy is not otherwise required to be present at the school to which they are assigned, the School Resource Deputy may be assigned to varying shifts/hours of work at the discretion of the Captain of the School Safety Division. Attendance at other events or functions may include, but is not limited to, the Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranch Camp and other camp events. Starting salary is based on sworn law enforcement experience as follows:
Less than 2 years of experience starting pay $61,585.61
2 – 3 years of experience starting pay $64,049.03
4 – 5 years of experience starting pay $66,611.00
Over 6 years of experience starting pay $69,275.44
Special Incentive: Agency paid time off during both Thanksgiving and Christmas school breaks.
Requirements
Must meet requirements of Florida Statutes 943.13.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must be Florida Law Enforcement Certified having successfully completed the Florida Law Enforcement Officer Certification or Equivalency of Training from a Florida law enforcement academy.
Must achieve a passing score on the Florida law enforcement certification exam, possess a good work history, must have a clean background, and a good driving history.
Before a candidate will be assigned as a School Resource Deputy, they must complete the IRCSO Field Training Program.
Must pass the IRCSO Physical Abilities Test (PAT).
Knowledge and understanding of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act and other legislation.
Must successfully complete SRO school within 6 months of assignment.
Must successfully complete FDLE #1402 Single Officer Response to Active threat and Shooter incidents within one year of assignment and/or when offered.
