JOB SUMMARY

This is a paraprofessional position providing support services to members of the Victim Advocate Unit who are providing services to crime victims. This position will be responsible for obtaining additional community resources information for the Victim Advocates to provide to victims. This position requires the incumbent to assist Victim Advocates with scheduling and transporting victims of crime to and from court and investigative appointments, such as child forensic examinations, sexual assault examinations, depositions, shelters, state attorney and law enforcement interviews and appointments, court hearings and trial, and any additional locations involving the best interest and safety of the victim.  The incumbent will need to exercise good judgment and discretion in carrying out work assignments. Work is reviewed on a monthly basis in the evaluation of tracking sheets, resource consultations, written and computer-generated items, and results obtained.  The position requires the incumbent to work independently and exercise considerable dedication and self-initiative. May be required to work a modified work schedule at times, which may include weekends and holidays. Incumbent may be called upon to assist in other areas as needed. EOE/ADA

This position is eligible for an assigned agency vehicle.

Veteran’s preference is given to qualified applicants in accordance with section 295.07, F.S. Preference-eligible applicants claiming Veteran’s Preference, will be required to submit supporting documentation. Waiver of postsecondary educational requirements is not applicable for this position.

Requirements

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSES

High school diploma or GED/Equivalent is required. Experience within the victim services or community resources field is preferred. Ability to type at a minimum rate of 40 correct words per minute is required. This position must maintain a Valid Florida Driver’s License at all times.  Unescorted CJIS clearance as authorized by FDLE is required.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

The physical abilities listed below are estimates of time spent during a typical workday to perform essential functions and responsibilities. Members in this position may be required to: 

•         Sit up to 7 hours per day 
•         Stand up to 8 hours per day 
•         Walk up to 8 hours per day 
•         Occasionally lift up to 30 lbs. 
•         Occasionally bend, squat, reach, kneel or twist.

Other Requirements: 

•         20/40 vision (corrected/uncorrected) 
•         Ability to hear conversation at a normal level (assisted or unassisted) 
•         May require occasional shift work.
